Hochstein School of Music & Dance is a community school of the arts established in 1920. The Music Therapy Department was founded by Diane Marino in 1975. I began working as a music therapist at Hochstein in 1995 under the direction of Susan Tyler Weatherell. Later I became Chair of the Orff-Schulwerk Department and Director of the Arts in Action Summer Program. When Sue left Hochstein in 2003, I left the Orff-Schulwerk Department to Chair the Music Therapy Department. I established the American Music Therapy
Association National Roster Internship that year and became the Internship Director. In 2008, I started the Therapeutic Arts Program and became the Program Director. Currently our department has three full-time music therapists, four part-time music therapists, and services up to 1,000 clients annually.
